Lately, it seems like there’s a new hypercar every week, and now it’s newcomer Capricorn’s turn to unveil their own multi-million pound carbon fibre missile, dubbed the 01 Zagato. While the badge is certainly unfamiliar, German engineering company Capricorn have contributed their know-how to numerous recent Bugattis including the Chiron, Mistral, and Bolide, as well as two thirds of the hybrid holy trinity in the form of the McLaren P1 and 918 Spyder. Now, thanks to close familial ties with Zagato, they’ve built a hypercar all of their own.

Somewhat reminiscent of the most recent Ford GT with a double-bubble roof, the Capricorn 01 Zagato is unsurprisingly almost entirely carbon fibre, resulting in a dry weight of just 1,200 kilograms. Nestled behind the cockpit, you’ll find a Ford V8 engine, bored-out to 5.2 litres and upgraded with a forged crank, rods, and pistons, before being fitted with a supercharger. The headline figures are 900 horsepower and 1,000Nm of torque, resulting in a 224 mph top speed. These were once crazy numbers, but considering you’ll get just as much power and speed from a Lamborghini Temerario for a fraction of the price, they’re not so jaw-dropping anymore. Speaking of which, Capricorn are hoping to shift each 01 Zagato for over 2.5 million pounds before tax, which seems like a huge figure for a car wearing and unknown badge with a relatively common engine.

However, the Capricorn 01 Zagato has one more party trick with which it hopes to win buyers over. Step inside, and you’ll find a five-speed open-gated manual gearbox matched with analogue gauges and no infotainment system whatsoever. Limited to just 19 units, the Capricorn 01 Zagato enters a heavily-populated hypercar market, leaving us wondering whether it will sell like hotcakes or turn stale if buyers favour brand recognition and more exotic powertrains.
