Missed out on one of the 799 Ferrari F80 build slots? Well, you’re in luck because it just so happens that the SF90 is officially four years old, which in Ferrari terms means its obsolete and due for a successor. Tonight they’ve unveiled just that in the form of the 849 Testarossa, boasting an enormous 1036 horsepower from a hybrid V8 setup. Crucially this endows the 849 Testarossa with a 50 horsepower bump over the SF90, while still slotting neatly below the F80’s range-topping figure of 1,184 horses.

However, 1000-plus horsepower figures aren’t exactly unheard of in 2025, so it’s the 849 Testarossa’s striking design that has us most intrigued. Visually, it falls somewhere between James Glickenhaus’ Ferrari P4/5 by Pininfarina, the one-off KC23 from 2023, and some sort of Star Wars droid. It’s not an immediately beautiful design per-se, but we already find ourselves rather smitten with details like the vertical side intakes and the ‘twin-tail’ rear, which is pleasingly reminiscent of the SP3 Daytona. Meanwhile, the ‘visor’ at the front, which has become so synonymous with Flavio Manzoni’s designs, has been slimmed down into something closer to spectacles.

Nestled behind the driver is that production Ferrari record-setting 1,036 hp (1,050 cv) powertrain, combining three electric motors with a more powerful twin turbo V8, which boasts the largest turbos ever fitted to a production Ferrari. This also lends the 849 Testarossa a two cylinder advantage over the F80, which will no doubt help the unlucky millionaires who missed out feel better about their new prancing horse. And if you’re still not satisfied with the 849 Testarossa’s performance, the Assetto Fiorano package makes a return, bringing with it a 30 kg diet, FXX-style dual rear wings, and an underfloor with two additional vortex generators. All in, it seems to be a more drastic visual change than a mechanical one, so we’ll be interested to see how the public reacts to this new face for Ferrari’s hybrid V8 hypercar.
