5 collector cars to put into your garage this week

What better way to spend a weekend is there than perusing the Classic Driver Market? For this week’s Market Finds, we present a pinnacle Aston Martin, a lightweight track-ready Renault, and an ultra rare Italian JDM collab to name a few!

Godzilla’s Italian Cousin

There’s a strong chance that the next-generation Nissan GT-R will go electric, which means the gas-guzzling Godzilla is extinct. With so many fabulous cars bearing the GT-R name, it’s hard to pick a favourite, but the Italdesign GT-R50 certainly ranks extremely highly in our books. Based on the R35-generation GT-R Nismo, just 18 of these incredible machines were built from a planned production run of 50, making them one of the rarest and most valuable GT-Rs ever built. Powered by a hand-assembled 3.8-litre V-6 engine producing 710 horsepower, this GT-R50 even boasts the optional hydraulic rear wing, a 60,000 euro extra!

Squeaky Clean Daily

With less than 500 Cactus Green examples of the first-generation 8L Audi S3 ever built, we were immediately taken by this incredible 1999 example. Arguably the pinnacle of soap bar styling, this Audi’s high mileage of 240,000 km makes it the perfect candidate for care-free daily driving. Under the bonnet is a spicy 1.8-litre turbocharged inline four cylinder sending a respectable 210 horsepower to all four wheels, while you’ll be able to row your own gears with that six speed manual box. Who would’t want to daily this thing?

Can’t Beat Mama’s Pasta

Everyone loves their mama’s pasta, but the sight of this “Mama’s Pasta” Alfa Romeo GTM 1750 with Horst Kwech at the wheel would have struck fear into the hearts of its fellow Trans Am championship contenders during the early 1970s. Powered by a 2.0-litre inline four, the pair racked up an impressive quintet of podium finishes in the sub-2.5-litre class during the 1971 season, two of which were outright wins, while the following year it achieved first, second, and third place finishes. Even off the track, this Alfa was a success, winning its class at the the 2008 Amelia Island Concours. Benefitting from a recent engine overhaul by Rebello Racing and resplendent in its period livery, this Alfa is a true four-wheeled delicacy.

L'araignée Gypsy

Renault Sport are famed for their frisky hot hatches, but during the turn of the millennium they weren’t afraid of a little experimentation. Just as they were cooking up the mid-engined Clio V6, Renault decided to break the mould yet again by building this: the incredible Renault Sport Spider. Limited to just 1,000 examples and powered by a 2.0-litre, 16 valve four cylinder from the Clio Williams good for 150 horsepower, the Spider made up for its modest power output with a featherweight frame of just 930 kilograms. Finished in the iconic shade of Pearlescent Liquid Yellow, this Spider is a peach with just 20,000 km on the clock.

Brutiful in Brewster Green

By the late 1990s, the Virage-based V8 Vantage was beginning to get a bit long in the tooth. So, how do you reinvigorate a model that’s almost ready for retirement? With a shedload of a power and a bulging, muscular bodykit, that’s how! Thus the V600 Driving Dynamics upgrade came to be, yet just 30 examples of the V8 Vantage were ever fitted with the package from the factory (while others were upgraded later) and this 1999 example was the very last. Finished in Brewster Green, this beautifully brutal 600 horsepower monster is specced to perfection with an Olive Green Connolly leather interior, while it remains in outstanding condition to this day with an odometer reading of just over 18,000 km.
