While other Italian design houses have traditionally strived for beauty, Zagato’s design CV reads like a roller-coaster; the high points are generally agreed to be the Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato, the Alfa Romeo TZ and, here at Classic Driver at least, the Lancia Fulvia Sport Zagato. The low points? We’ll let you decide on that. But first cast your eyes over the latest offering: the Lamborghini 5-95 Zagato. Built on a platform from the now-defunct Lamborghini Gallardo, it forgoes the familiar clear-cut edges and replaces them with organic lines and a ‘double-mouth’ in the style of the Aston Martin One-77. Other prominent features include the periscopic air intake flanked by the trademark ‘double-bubble’ roof. It’s not for everyone – but it doesn’t need to be. The 5-95 Zagato was commissioned as a one-off for Swiss Lamborghini collector Albert Spiess, who owns many more rare models and design studies.
