Bugatti celebrates its heroes with six retro Veyrons

Just as we thought Bugatti was starting to rein-in production of the Veyron, the company has announced plans to build six, special-edition Grand Sport Vitesses to honour the most influential figures in its illustrious history…

The first 'legend of Bugatti' to be celebrated will be Jean-Pierre Wimille, the French racing driver who took Bugatti to victory at the Le Mans 24 Hours in 1937 and 1939, driving 57G and 57C 'Tank' models respectively.

The 'Grand Sport Vitesse Legend Jean-Pierre Wimille' edition takes a nod at  the Frenchman’s 1937 Le Mans winning 57G, with its clear-coated blue carbonfibre body highlighted with lighter ‘Wimille Bleu’ accents. Inside, each 'legends' Grand Sport Vitesse will have unique detailing, all with reference to its namesake.

Just three Jean-Pierre Wimille editions will be built, and the car will be unveiled on August 16 during this year's Pebble Beach week. The seemingly never-ending list of special edition Veyrons will expand yet further with the revealing of the five remaining cars in the series  in the next 12 months. Are these cars the final curtain call for the mighty Veyron? We’ll believe it when we see it.
