This Ferrari 512 TR Speciale is the rarest of all Testarossas

One of just 15 Ferrari 512 TR Speciale built for the Japanese market is heading to Gooding & Company’s Rétromobile Paris sale, offering collectors a rare chance to own one of the most collectible flat 12 Ferraris from the early 1990s.

Commissioned to mark the 15th anniversary of Cornes & Co., Ferrari’s official Japanese distributor, the 512 TR Speciale is one of the rarest and most carefully curated variants of the Testarossa. Only 15 factory-authorized examples were produced by Ferrari's Special Projects team, each featuring unique aesthetic and tactile refinements that hinted at styling cues later adopted for the F512 M which crowned the Testarossa lineage. The car offered here is No. 3, making it one of the earliest of this ultra-limited series. Finished in the stunning shade of Rosso Metallizzato with a beige leather interior and Castoro carpeting, this Speciale stands out with factory Scuderia Ferrari fender shields and three-piece Speedline modular wheels, details that elevate it well above a standard 512 TR. Inside, bespoke elements include a leather-wrapped steering wheel embossed with the 512 TR logo, aluminum gearshift knob and sport pedals, and dedicated sill plates reading “512 TR Speciale – Cornes 15th Anniversary,” underscoring its exclusivity.

Delivered new via Cornes & Co. in January 1994, the car spent its early life in Japan with just three owners before being imported to Germany in 2025. Showing 33,034 km, it has been meticulously maintained, including an extensive engine-out service in December 2025. It is offered with German registration, new TÜV, original books, manuals, tool kit, and complete service records. As recognition grows for the 512 TR’s refined dynamics and performance over the earlier Testarossa, the Speciale occupies a rarefied position at the top of the flat-twelve hierarchy. Its ultra-limited production, factory-sanctioned enhancements, striking specification, and documented history make this 512 TR Speciale one of the most exclusive and collectible Ferraris of the 1990s.

Estimated by Gooding to fetch 450,000 - 600,000 euros at the Rétromobile sale on 29 January in Paris, this unicorn 1990s Ferrari could fetch 2-3 times the average value of a standard Ferrari 512 TR and confirm the upward trend for rare Testarossa models only half a year after RM Sotheby's sold a low-mileage F512 M sold for 912,500 US-Dollars in summer 2025.
