Land Rover Classics’ Works Bespoke Division truly is the ultimate drawing board for lovers of the boxy off-roader. First there was the V8 Works, launched last year to a roaring crowd eager to see the Defender of old be given a new lease of life. Now, the icon is back, inspired by Sir Winston Churchill's personal Land Rover Series I, which was given to him by Land Rover in 1954 as a gift for his 80th birthday. Only ten examples of the Classic Defender V8 Churchill Edition will be produced, all of which finished in Bronze Green, a colour that the experts at Classic Works have carefully removed from the original vehicle.
The project, initiated by Classic partner Emil Frey, who owns the original Churchill Series I, sporting the iconic "UKE 80" number plate, the new version mimics the original’s styling, complete with a galvanized front bumper and a classic radiator grille made of metal mesh. The front is characterised by a single, matt black headlight insert, inspired by the position of the front license plate on Churchill's vehicle. Subtly placed on the front wings sits a "UKE 80" décor, while custom-made emblems at the rear and unpainted, galvanised body edges give this brand-new version a traditional yet durable look.

Inside, driver and passengers can sink into ‘Bridge of Weir’ semi-aniline leather finished in Bottle Green, which extends to the grab handles and continuing the green theme. It is combined with Windsor leather in Ebony for trim and headliner, while the dashboard is accentuated by an exclusive clock with a blue dial and red stripe, inspired by Pol Roger, Sir Winston Churchill's preferred champagne brand.

Capturing the true essence of Winston Churchill's iconic Land Rover, the Classic Works team have brought modern-era touches to a machine that is so symbolic, and so immediately recognisable to millions all over the world. Instead of Churchill’s original engine, the team opted for their trusty 5.0-litre V8 and eight-speed ZF automatic and equipped with a familiar combination of Eibach coil springs, Bilstein dampers and uprated anti-roll bars that distinguish all Works Bespoke cars. Prices will start at £232,500 for a 90, £242,500 for a Soft Top and rise to £246,000 for a 110 Station Wagon, all before VAT. Pricey, yes, but for a one-of-ten remake boasting 405 horsepower, finished in a glorious celebration of green and historic significance like no other, it’s a price worth paying to enthusiasts out there!
