The original Twingo is to Renault what the original 500 is to Fiat and the Golf is to Volkswagen; a truly affordable car for the masses that didn’t compromise on charm. Now they’ve reincarnated their lovable four-wheeled frog in electric form: introducing the all-new Renault Twingo.

Expected to Launch in 2026 priced around 20,000 euros, the new Twingo is pleasingly almost identical to the concept car they revealed last year. Unlike the original, this new Twingo is a four-door, but the friendly shape and happy face of the 1990s icon have made the transition to this new version unscathed, albeit modernised for the 21st century.

Powered by an 80 horsepower electric motor, the Twingo isn’t a hot hatch, but considering it weighs just 1,200 kilos, it should feel plenty quick around the city. In part, this low curb weight is achieved thanks to the Twingo’s cutting-edge LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) battery, a first for Renault that reduces dependence on critical metals such as cobalt and nickel. Renault claim a WLTP range of up to 163 miles, making this more of a grocery-getter than road trip chariot. Overall, we’re besotted with the new Twingo — could this be the car to finally make enthusiasts fall in love with an EV?
