In the absence of an outright victory campaign in the LMP1 class, Porsche will field four factory 911 RSR GTEs at the 24 Hours of Le Mans next weekend, two of which will run in classic liveries from the marque’s illustrious history at the legendary French endurance race. The number 91 car, to be driven by Gianmaria Bruni, Richard Lietz, and Frédéric Makowiecki, has received a new take on the Rothmans livery that harks back to the 956 and 962 Group C racers, each of which won Le Mans twice in the 1980s. The number 92 car, which will be piloted by Kévin Estre, Michael Christensen, and Laurens Vanthoor, has been adorned with the unique 917/20’s famous ‘Pink Pig’ design, comically depicting butcher’s cuts on a pig. Here’s hoping the two 911s emulate the success of the great machines from where they draw their aesthetic inspiration…
