Take drop-top driving to the extreme with this Porsche Speedster restomod

From Turin to the world, this new restmod known as the Eterea Iperleggera uses the intoxicating joy of roofless driving as its centrepiece, turning a Porsche 964 Cabriolet into the ultimate homage to the brand’s iconic speed machines. Let’s take a closer look…

There have been dozens of restomods join the ever-growing line up of interpretations and homages, all seeking to bring out the true essence of why the motoring world is so head-over-heels in love with them, and yet bringing their own, modern and provocative flair to proceedings. Fresh from Turin, there’s a new kid on the carbon-cladded block, known as Eterea, and more specifically, the Iperleggera, a car that wears its philosophy as lightly as it does its bodywork.

The brand’s official public debut came at the 2025 Milano AutoClassica, where founder and car designer Andrea Di Buduo unveiled a project rooted in modern craftsmanship and pure mechanical emotion. Rather than following the well-trodden restomod path, Eterea introduces what it calls a “Neolog” approach: not a nostalgic rehash, but an aesthetic and philosophical transformation that preserves the analogue soul of the original machine.

The starting point is a Porsche 911 Cabriolet, the 964-generation to be precise, a car widely regarded as the sweet spot of the air-cooled lineage. From there, Eterea strips things back to the essentials, inspired by the ferocious 1974 Porsche 911 RSR Turbo. The Iperleggera channels motorsport aggression through a contemporary design language, resulting in a car that feels alive, purposeful and refreshingly honest.

Thanks to extensive use of aluminium and carbon fibre, not to mention a ruthless reduction of components, the Iperleggera tips the scales at just 990 kilos, while its power comes from a naturally aspirated, air-cooled flat-six producing 300 horsepower in its standard form. For those stat lovers, that means an impressive 3.2 kilos per horsepower. If that doesn’t quite cut it, buyers can opt for larger displacements from 3.6 to 3.8 litres, while from April 2026 a monstrous 4.3-litre version will join the range, offering over 400 horsepower and more than 400 Nm of torque, certainly one not for the faint hearted!

“Iperleggera is a dynamic sculpture,” says Di Buduo, “created for those who still believe that lightness is essential to a truly authentic and visceral driving experience.” The car is the product of a collaboration between five Italian specialists, each contributing expertise in prototyping, restoration and low-volume production. Every Iperleggera is bespoke and hand-built, shaped around the tastes and ambitions of its owner. If you fancy one of your own, orders open in spring 2026, and for those craving mechanical purity, Iperleggera feels like a perfectly timed reminder of what driving to so many of us around the world.
