Presented in stunning ‘Aurum Dust’ hue, the M4 builds on the standard 4 Series by adding new bumpers, LED headlights, upright side vents (to cool the carbon ceramic brakes) and a power dome reminiscent of its predecessor. Underneath this will be a twin-turbo 3.0-litre straight-six, taking the place of the previous model’s V8.

When the production version arrives in showrooms next year, it’ll be the first ‘M3’ (okay, so it's now called an M4, but this is going to take a while to get used to…) not to be offered with a manual gearbox. Instead, the M Division’s familiar 7-speed dual-clutch will take care of brokering drive to the rear wheels.
