Description

-- Für die deutsche Beschreibung besuchen Sie bitte unsere Website: www.carola-daimler.de --

According to the data card the 190 SL left the production halls in Sindelfingen in the color white grey (158) with red leather and a grey blue hardtop. It was ordered as a coupe with a separate soft top (model 121.040). The paint was renewed some time ago in the original color, the leather on the other hand is in the absolute original condition. The current owner decided not to renew it, but to preserve the unique patina. The numbers on engine, chassis and body correspond to those on the data card, so it is Matching Numbers.

The 190 SL was delivered by rail on 10/03/1956 to the importer in the Netherlands at the time, N.V. AGAM in Amsterdam and was registered by Leidsche Wolspinnerij N.V. on 12/28/1956. The company produced and sold hand knitting yarns and wool for knotting carpets until 1981 under the brand name Neveda.

The original service booklet is available, it was regularly filled in a workshop from 1960 to 1970 (56,211 km to 102,250 km). The next and last entry in it dates from 1995 and documents a mileage of 136,837 km. From the available records, three previous owners from the area between Amsterdam and The Hague are known. In 2014, the current owner purchased it from a well-known dealer in Amsterdam and has since taken care to preserve its beautiful patinated condition.

The 190 SL runs clean and presents itself in a very original and rust-free condition. The perfect companion for relaxed drives and also longer tours.

History of the series
------------------------
The 190 SL was envisioned as a sporty touring car alongside the 300 SL to expand business in the American market. The idea of the car came from the American general importer Max Hoffmann, who brought it to the attention of the board of directors and finally convinced them. In 1954, the 190 SL was presented for the first time at the New York Auto Show and aroused much enthusiasm. It was then further revised to bring it closer in appearance to the 300 SL and finally presented in its final form at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1955.

Technically, the vehicle was based on the Ponton saloon (W 121). The 190 SL, which was described at the time as a "touring sports car", had many of the same styling elements as its "big brother", the 300 SL, especially the front end. Technically, however, much was taken over from the Ponton

models, such as the chassis and the floor assembly. The carburetor engine, on the other hand, was newly developed especially for the 190 SL (M 121 B II).

A vehicle with sporty optics and high everyday suitability which is still admired very much today.
