Description

The Mercedes-Benz 190 E 2.5-16 Evolution II offered for sale here was delivered to Switzerland in June 1990. It is in beautiful original condition and has the coveted "Matching Numbers". The extensive optional equipment includes leather upholstery, electric sunroof, air conditioning, exterior temperature display and heat-insulating glass all round.

The technology works excellently, the vehicle drives very directly, hangs very nicely on the gas. The rear axle has already been overhauled - a classic problem area in this series. The paint has a nice shine and comparatively few signs of use. As far as we know, the EVO is no longer completely in its first coat of paint. The interior is convincing with a great overall impression.

The engine seems very healthy and fascinates with its unmistakable sound at higher revs. The gearbox shifts cleanly and is separated from the power flow by the clutch with a clear pressure point. The 5-speed manual gearbox has the first gear on the bottom left to ensure that the gear change from 2 to 3, which is important in racing, is as direct as possible.

The air conditioning is at full power and all other comfort extras work perfectly. The car has been in a collection in northern Germany for many years and has enjoyed good care and air-conditioned parking there.

Due to the fact that only 502 cars were built, the EVO II was a sought-after collector's item from the very beginning. However, it can also convince on the road or on the race track with the DTM charm of the 90s. Due to the close-to-production technology, however, it is also comparatively suitable for everyday use and uncomplicated to maintain - a fun investment.

------------------------
History of the series
------------------------
The EVI II, presented at the 1990 Geneva Motor Show, was designed as a homologation model for the racing touring cars used in the DTM. At first, the EVO II was met with derisive comments which were aimed specifically at its monstrous rear spoiler, among other things. But when the EVO II gave its competitors in the DTM a run for their money and also took victories, the tide turned.

The engines of the DTM touring cars were derived from the engine of the production car. The power of the four-cylinder in-line engine rose to a whopping 373 hp. It was the last DTM power unit designed by Mercedes, as the subsequent development tasks were taken over by AMG from that point on.

Due to the low number of 502 units, the EVO II had a collector's status early on, which also brought an increase in value and is still rising today.

The name EVO II is a household name among ethusiasts these days.
