Description

The AC Cobra in question, ‘’COB 5003’’ is one of a very small number of genuine MKIII 427 Cobra Continuations (between 10-14) built by AC Cars during their production run in the late 1990’s.

These AC Factory built cars were constructed on the original 1960's chassis jigs and body bucks. Every part of the car uses correct period parts which include the aluminium body, steel ladder form chassis, engine and gearbox, suspension, steering and braking system.

Purchased via AC Cars Brooklands, the Cobras current custodian commissioned renowned specialist Alan Faulkner Stevens of Dragon Wheels Ltd to carry out a comprehensive, no expense spared nut and bolt 3-year restoration. The cars body was sent to Mike Hughes of Lone Pine Garage, a renowned body shop that has painted winning cars for both Salon Prive and Pebble Beach Concours events, and subjected to a complete external repaint, in Tungsten Grey, whilst the chassis was repainted in high strength satin black.

During the restoration, every mechanical component was disassembled, entirely rebuilt and redetailed completely. The 1966 cast 428ci Police Interceptor V8 engine was stripped, upgraded and stroked to 8 litres by Knight Racing Services ( who build many engines for Goodwood ) and once finished was dyno tested. This resulted in test figures close to 500 horsepower and 500 ibs/ft of torque.

The cars transmission, a big input shaft 4-speed Ford Top-Loader and Salisbury heavy duty LSD differential were also detail overhauled and refinished. The Toploader having the correct reverse position reverse shifter .

Once the mechanical items were completed, the Cobras interior was graced with a full leather retrim, Smiths instruments including reverse sweep 180 mph speedo and 16inch Motolita woodrim steering wheel ; further complimenting its extensively prepared bodywork and period correct mechanics .

Now offered for sale, this exquisitely prepared and freshly restored example presents an exciting opportunity for someone to purchase a genuine 427 Cobra SC continuation that retains original and period correct AC Motor Company parts for a very competitive price.( Especially as an original 427 SC - semi competition recently sold for over $2.8 million )

The AC marque has remained renowned among the motor industry for 120 years and stands as one of the oldest independent car makers founded in Britain, making the Cobra arguably one of the most iconic and collectible classic performance cars to date.
