In the 1950s, rules stipulated that race teams use colours which represented their countries: Italian cars were red, British green, Belgians yellow, French blue, Germans silver. American entries were painted white with blue accents. Briggs Cunningham’s cars ran two thick blue stripes over his race cars, the livery often referred to as the “Cunningham stripes”. A young Peter Brock was a fan of Cunningham’s cars and by the time he found himself working for Shelby in the Mid-60s he adapted the scheme for the Shelby Fords. This November you can bid on a 2005 Ford GT, 2014 Shelby GT500 Super Snake Prototype and a 2017 GT350R, all three adorned with the iconic colour combination.
