At Gallery Aaldering we regularly encounter Porsche models that may appear modest on paper, yet in reality represent an important chapter in automotive history. This 1968 Porsche 912 Coupe is a fine example. A car developed during a transitional period at Porsche and today especially appreciated for its driving characteristics and balanced nature.

This example originates from the final production year of the short wheelbase generation. As such, it belongs to the closing phase of the original development period before Porsche transitioned to the later long wheelbase configuration.

*Specified with attention to detail*
The car is presented in Polo Red, a color that complements the restrained lines of the early 911 and 912 bodywork beautifully. Combined with a black interior and sporty Recaro seats, the overall appearance reflects the era in which the car was originally configured.

This Porsche underwent a carefully executed restoration in the past, during which its authentic character was preserved. Today the car presents in very fine condition both externally and internally. This includes attractive paintwork, straight body panels, well aligned bumpers, and an interior finished with high quality upholstery. The 912 also performs exactly as it should, offering precise and confident road manners. A very appealing Porsche that has clearly been maintained with care.

Recently the car received a comprehensive service carried out by Porsche Classic, supplemented by maintenance performed by specialized Porsche technicians. This documentation clearly reflects the attention this 912 has received.

*Optional five speed transmission*
A notable feature of this example is the presence of the optional five speed gearbox. At the time this was not standard, but an extra that was also fitted to more powerful 911S models and Porsche competition oriented variants. This transmission contributes to relaxed cruising at higher speeds and enhances overall drivability.

Behind the wheel you immediately experience what makes early Porsche models so compelling: direct feedback, compact dimensions, and a mechanical connection that defines sports cars of this era.

The Porsche 912 was developed in the mid nineteen sixties as a four cylinder alternative within the then new 911 program. The lighter engine resulted in a different weight distribution compared to the six cylinder variants, creating stable and predictable handling characteristics. It is precisely this balance that has secured the 912 its own respected position among early Porsche models.
