Description
The Story of the Porsche 911 2.2 S – A Masterpiece of Engineering
The Porsche 911 – affectionately known as the "Neunelfer" – is far more than just a sports car. It is an icon. A symbol of driving passion, technical brilliance, and uncompromising dynamics. The 911 was born in 1963, when it was unveiled at the IAA in Frankfurt as the successor to the legendary Porsche 356 – originally under the designation "Porsche 901." Due to a trademark dispute with Peugeot, it soon became the 911.
The 911 is a classic 2+2-seater with an air-cooled flat-six engine mounted in the rear – a design principle that remains central to the 911 legend. The early models, particularly the 911 S, are true driver's cars: no power steering, no brake booster, no electronic aids – just you, the machine, and the road. This pure, unfiltered connection creates an unforgettable driving experience that continues to inspire generations of enthusiasts.
With the model update in the early 1970s, the displacement of the six-cylinder boxer engine was increased from 2.0 to 2.2 liters. In the S variant, that meant 180 hp at 6,500 rpm, 2195 cm³ of displacement, a top speed of 230 km/h, and 0 to 100 km/h in just 7 seconds – impressive figures for a car weighing only 1,070 kg. The resulting power-to-weight ratio delivers a visceral, almost raw driving feel.
The 911 2.2 S made a statement not only on the road, but also on the racetrack. Porsche used international rally and circuit events as a proving ground for reliability and performance – with great success.
Particularly exclusive: only 729 examples of the 911 2.2 S Targa were built in total. This makes the model one of the most sought-after and valuable collector vehicles among the classic 911 lineup today. The combination of rare Targa body style, increased engine performance, and pure driving feel make the 911 2.2 S a true milestone in sports car history – and one of the last genuinely analog Porsche driving experiences of its era.
History of the Porsche 911 S 2.2 Targa Offered – SSC#244 A Time Capsule in Gemini Blue – with History, Character, and Future
Some cars don’t just possess form and function – they have a presence. This Porsche 911 S 2.2 Targa, built during the legendary 1970 model year, is one of those cars. A moving tribute to the golden age of air-cooled Porsche.
Delivered to its first owner via Porsche Center Düsseldorf on July 1st, 1970, this 911 S Targa left the factory in the rare and stunning color "Gemini Blue Metallic" – a tone that blends elegance, depth, and subtle sportiness. Its delivery is confirmed by an official Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, underlining the originality and historical integrity of this special vehicle.
In the early 1980s, the car made its way to the south of France – a move that was meaningful not only geographically, but emotionally. It remained in the same family for decades, initially owned by the father and then cared for by the son. Over all those years, the 911 S was loved, driven, and preserved – not as a collector's piece, but as part of everyday life.
We had the opportunity to acquire this exceptional vehicle through a long-trusted intermediary. What we found was an honest, authentic Porsche – with history, dignity, and the graceful marks of time. The southern French sun had understandably taken its toll on the paintwork, so we opted for a careful, factory-correct repaint in its original Gemini Blue Metallic. No shortcuts, no alterations – just a return to the factory-fresh brilliance. At the same time, all hardened window seals were replaced to restore full functionality and appearance.
What remains untouched is the car’s character. This Porsche still retains its original engine and transmission – exactly as it left the factory in 1970. A rare distinction today. The interior is equally authentic: well-preserved, full of charm, patina, and story.
Features & Technical Details Alongside its classic silhouette and the iconic Targa roof, this 911 S boasts a high level of period-correct equipment:
Original 2.2-liter S engine producing 180 hp
5-speed manual gearbox
Internally ventilated disc brakes
Original Fuchs alloy wheels
Sports seats
Factory radio with roof antenna
This offering is not a clinically perfect showroom vehicle. It is a Porsche that breathes history. This is not a high-gloss museum exhibit. It is real. It wears its light patina not as wear, but as distinction. You can see it has lived – and you can feel it’s ready for new adventures.
Documentation & Included Items In addition to its de-registered French documents (last registered in 2014), the vehicle comes with:
Original Porsche tool kit
Owner's manual
Original space-saver spare wheel
And of course: the Porsche Certificate of Authenticity
Conclusion If you're looking for a Porsche 911 that is more than a restored display piece – if you value originality, provenance, and character – this is your car.

he Scuderia Sportiva Group, with locations in Dortmund and Kirchen/Sieg, understands classic automobiles as designed objects – and as the starting point for a contemporary reinterpretation.
With its Restomod Signature Line, the company creates cars that are not restored, but reimagined – as a tribute to the great designs of the 1960s and 70s, and their precise evolution into the present.
The focus lies on icons from Alfa Romeo, Maserati, Ferrari, as well as classic BMW coupés. Their design DNA remains untouched – yet is refined and sharpened in proportion, surface and detail.
The philosophy follows three principles:
Reduction. Tension. And the luxury of today.
Reduction creates clarity.
Tension emerges through lines, surfaces and transitions.
The luxury of today reveals itself in materiality, tactility and a technical sophistication that does not need to be visible to be felt.
In this way, classic designs are carefully brought into a new era – not to change them, but to make them accessible to a younger, driver-focused generation.
The interior is re-composed. Materials are curated, surfaces calmed, details refined. Technology, comfort and usability integrate seamlessly – as a natural part of the whole.
At the same time, the technical foundation is redefined: more precise, more composed, more capable – engineered to elevate the driving experience to match the design intent.
The result: automobiles that feel as if they have evolved naturally over decades.
Alongside the Signature Line, Scuderia Sportiva Colonia also offers concours-level restorations, comprehensive service for classic automobiles, and vehicles that can optionally be delivered with a 267-point inspection.
The Signature Line, however, follows its own idea:
Designed for the past.
Built for the present.
Created for the next generation.
