The 930 Turbo defines the concept of a supercar from the eighties. The air-cooled 3.3 litre flat six delivers 300 hp and is known for its explosive power delivery. In 1987 this engine was still paired with the notorious four speed gearbox with its long ratios. Driving is physical work as power steering and ABS are completely absent. The wide hips and the flat 'tea tray' rear spoiler were necessary to house the engineering and keep the car on the road. The interior is no-nonsense with clear dials and upright seats.

Nice detail: although the naturally aspirated Carrera received the G50 5-speed in 1987, the Turbo stuck with the 4-speed because this was the only transmission that could reliably handle the brutal torque.

De 930 Turbo definieert het begrip supercar uit de jaren tachtig. De luchtgekoelde 3,3 liter zescilinder levert 300 pk en staat bekend om zijn explosieve krachtopbouw. In 1987 was deze motor nog gekoppeld aan de beruchte vierversnellingsbak met zijn lange verzetten. Rijden is fysiek werken want stuurbekrachtiging en ABS ontbreken volledig. De brede heupen en de vlakke 'tea tray' achterspoiler waren noodzakelijk om de techniek te huisvesten en de auto op de weg te houden. Het interieur is no-nonsense met duidelijke klokken en rechtopstaande stoelen.

Leuk detail: hoewel de atmosferische Carrera in 1987 al de G50 5-bak kreeg, hield de Turbo vast aan de 4-bak omdat dit de enige transmissie was die het brute koppel betrouwbaar kon verwerken.

La 930 Turbo définit la notion de supercar des années quatre-vingt. Le six cylindres à plat refroidi par air de 3,3 litres développe 300 ch et est réputé pour sa montée en puissance explosive. En 1987 ce moteur était encore couplé à la célèbre boîte à quatre vitesses aux rapports longs. La conduite est un travail physique car la direction assistée et l'ABS sont totalement absents. Les hanches larges et l'aileron arrière plat étaient nécessaires pour loger la technique et maintenir la voiture sur la route. L'intérieur est sans fioritures avec des compteurs clairs et des sièges droits.

Détail intéressant : bien que la Carrera atmosphérique ait reçu la boîte 5 vitesses G50 dès 1987, la Turbo a conservé la boîte 4 rapports car c'était la seule transmission capable d'encaisser le couple brutal avec fiabilité.
