Description
This outstanding 996 GT2 (chassis number WP0AB29952S696132) was sold new in the US in August 2002. Shortly after delivery, it was involved in an accident in 2003. However, a better life was to come, as it was sent to RUF for repairs. It was reborn as one of the wildest 911s ever; it actually received a new shell and was upgraded to RT550 specifications — one of only five 996 GT2s allegedly built by Alois Ruf. In a letter to the previous owner, Alois kindly explained, "The vehicle was completely rebuilt in our factory in 2003 based on an original Porsche body in white. The remanufacturing process was identical to that used for our new RUF cars".
The specifications included the following RUF upgrades:
RT550 engine / turbos / ECU / cats / exhaust ( 600HP on the dyno )
integrated roll cage
body kit
upgraded ceramic brakes system.
upgraded suspension
RUF modular wheels
315mm rear tires
reinforced clutch
Since it was built, it has been used very sparingly and has only covered 9,000 miles. The last owner kept the car in his fantastic Porsche/RUF collection for the last decade. The GT2 has been approved by RUF and was registered in Luxembourg. It has recently been serviced and fitted with new tyres.
The 996 GT2s have been nicknamed 'The Widow Maker' because of their stiff GT3-derived chassis, massive power, and lack of traction control. However, we disagree, as they are fabulous cars to drive and offer an amazing driving experience.
The RUF version is an even more extreme car, but its refined chassis makes it easy to control. Its performance is stellar for a 2002 car, with a top speed of 340 km/h and a standing kilometre in under 20 seconds.
Would you be brave enough to take the wheel ?
