Description
Absolute rarity
The only known 6 cylinder Rekord A Cabriolet
Fully restored
Well over 1 million units of the Rekord A (built from 1963 to 1966) were built; it was available as a 2- or 4-door saloon, estate, panel van or as an elegant coupé. However, the Opelians were denied a factory convertible.
Thanks to two coachbuilding companies, this wish could nevertheless be fulfilled: Deutsch GmbH in Cologne-Braunsfeld and Autenrieth from Darmstadt offered chic convertible conversions.
The coupé or the 2-door saloon served as the basis. Deutsch charged DM 3,750 for the conversion, which corresponded to a surcharge of approx. 30 - 50% of the list price.
While Autenrieth probably only produced a single car, unconfirmed expert estimates suggest that 11 Deutsch Cabriolets were built. Today, 5 are still known, with our car being the only one to have the 6 cylinder installed.
The vehicle was photo-documented restored a few years ago.
The original badge of the “Karl Deutsch” coachbuilding works can be found in the engine compartment.
