Chassis No. AM115/49 2090

Engine No. AM115/49 2090

Body No. 10513

This original Ghibli SS, with its numbers-matching 4.9-liter engine and desirable five-speed manual transmission, was acquired in 2000 by Maserati marque specialist Steve Claussen from enthusiast Randy Simon, who had completed its paintwork in this beautiful shade of Rosso. Mr. Claussen then undertook a great deal of work to prep the car for the 2000 Maserati meet at Concorso Italiano, just months away. In a recent conversation he noted, "I decided I was going to spend 'Ferrari time and money' on this car, to get everybody's attention; I went to great extremes to find all the correct parts for the air pump and other components, and used even the correct width of electrical tape." He then shipped the car to Denver and, in the company of 17 other cars piloted by Maserati Club members, drove to Monterey. After a simple cleaning the car qualified for the Concorso's highest class of judging and was scored at 96.75 points – after being driven from Colorado, and retaining, as it does today, the original interior.

In 2003, Mr. Claussen sold his Ghibli to Jim Taylor, accompanied by an invitation to that year's Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. Mr. Taylor proceeded to drive the car around Monterey for the entire week before the event – at one point using it to pick up coffee – and yet, after another cleaning, it achieved 3rd in Class against very strong Concours-restored competition, once again proving that its inherent quality withstood use.

The car has continued to be exercised and enjoyed, but still shows very well, including its mousehair dashboard and chrome wire wheels. Recording 26,466 miles at the time of cataloging, it is a most desirable Ghibli with the best possible drivetrain, ready to drive, show or both in the best Taylor tradition.
