Description
This XK150 S 3.8 litre is one of 115 cars built by Jaguar Cars Ltd, and today only 84 cars survive.
A matching number example, 5546 PX has undergone a comprehensive restoration which is detailed with a good array of photographs supported by a folder of receipts and service work.
The pinnacle of the XK120, 140 and 150 model series was the XK150 3.8S, with a potent 265 BHP, 0-60 of just over 7 seconds and 136 MPH top speed.
The engine included the introduction of the Weslake-developed straight port cylinder head, high compression pistons, with fuel supplied by triple 2’’ SU carburettors.
The XK150 with its widened body provided an extra 4’’ of comfort and interstingly leg room and access was substantially more generous over the Jaguar series 1 E-type which were being built side by side the last of the XK150’s
The history file includes a an buff style continuation logbook, listing 5 owners, the last of the recorded owners on the original logbook, owning the car from 1967 – 1981.
The car stayed in the family, passing to a son-in-law, albeit briefly
In 1985 the car had changed hands a few times, but Mr. Sargent would be 5546 PX’s next long term owner, some 27 years.
Under his care, the car received a well needed strip and restoration, with a lot of the work carried out by Twyford Motors (circa 2013) and Sigma Engineering.
Noteworthy upgrades include a 123 electronic distributor (dynamo is retained), and twin ignition coils.
5546 PX represents a wonderful mototing opportunity. These XK150’s are still relevant in todays busy road, with strong torque and good power, they are a joy to drive.
