Description

Chassis No. SS 12383 DN

Engine No. G 7739-8S

Body No. F 12452

Jim Taylor's XK 140 roadster was acquired in early 2007 from the noted Jaguar specialist, Terry Larson. It is, correctly, an XK 140 MC, recognizing its fitment with the C-Type-style cylinder hood, good for an output of 210 bhp, as well as dual exhaust, fog lights, and chrome wire wheels, with no rear fender 'spats.' These models were distinguished by the S prefix on their serial number, as well as by a special badge on the radiator. Examples such as this one fitted with the close-ratio overdrive transmission were further identified by a 'DN' suffix.

Information in the file indicates that Mr. Larson had acquired the car from its second California owner, since 1963, and that it had been fully restored at the time of his acquisition; indeed, inspection shows it to have lived a very dry, trauma-free life, with the chassis being unpitted and beautiful. Original hardware is still present throughout, even in areas where reproduction pieces are commonly found. An electric fan aids in everyday use. The car retains its original, numbers-matching engine block and head, matching the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate, as well as the original chassis tag, although the latter is unusually stamped with a 'SS' prefix rather than the usual single 'S.'

The car presents beautifully in a classic livery of red with black leather interior and black canvas top, with complimentary Wilton wool carpeting and three-inch racing lap belts. At the time of cataloging the Jaguar displayed 10,795 miles. Accompanying are a canvas tonneau cover, side curtains, reproduction tool roll, knock-off hammer, and the original painted spare wheel with a brand-new tire, as well as an original owner's manual and the original California black plates sent with the car by Mr. Larson. It all adds up to an especially appealing example of the XK 140.
