Description

Chassis No. 83944384

Willys was not the only manufacturer to realize that its durable, dependable military vehicles would be well-remembered by servicemen returning to prosperous civilian life after World War II. Dodge soon introduced a production version of the WC truck, appropriately dubbed the Power Wagon for its robust hauling abilities. Various versions were produced between 1945 and 1980, a remarkable run of thirty-five years, including 'badge engineered' versions sold under other names outside the United States. Not only fondly remembered by truck enthusiasts, many Power Wagons continue to remain in service worldwide, demonstrating their remarkable service lives and capabilities well into the 21st Century.

Jim Taylor's four-wheel-drive model was acquired in 2007 from Dean MacDonald of Wallaceburg, Ontario, and has remained in his ownership for the last fifteen years along other variations of this chassis. It is bodied as a fire truck, complete with its own on-board water tank, as well as a ladder, siren, axes, hoses, winch, Federal Director CB radio, fire extinguishers, and Unity spotlight. Nicely presented in typical fire engine red with diamond-plate polished aluminum running boards, polished stainless steel side-view mirrors, and an opening windshield, it has very good paint and interior with black vinyl upholstery, and is sitting on new military tires. The body is liveried as Mac Engine Company Unit 72. At the time of cataloging, the Dodge had recorded 14,727 miles, and is ready for many more adventures – or parades – in the coming years.

Every good-humored collection, regardless of its focus elsewhere, needs a fire truck, the centerpiece and odds-on favorite of families and friends. This example boasts a superb presentation inside and out, wonderful period accessories, and overall has just the right 'look,' in keeping with the Taylor tradition of selecting only the finest vehicles.
