Description
1964 Apollo 5000GT, S/N 1043, Red with black leather, 327 cu. in. Chevy V8 with tri-carb set up & 4 speed transmission. Vintage air conditioning. Built in Italy by Carrozzeria Intermeccanica and then transported to Oakland, CA where they had final assembly with drivetrains installed, usually Buick V8’s. A total of only 88 Apollos were ever made. This is one is believed to be the last chassis from the original production run. Apollo #1043 was purchased as a rolling chassis by a merchant marine in the Bay area, he got called out to sea, put the car into storage and there it sat, unfinished and new, for the next 40 years. Unearthed in 2004, the Apollo was unused but needed completed. By 2006, #1043 was finally finished after leaving Italy 42 years prior. It was repainted in red and had a period ’64 small block Chevy 327 installed with an eye catching “triple-deuce” carb set up…the perfect mix of Italian coachwork and American powertrain. Driven just over 5,000 miles in the last 15 years, the Apollo is ready for the next owner to continue this amazing story of one of the rarest US/Euro collaborations.
