The Alfa Romeo Montreal is a 2+2 sports coupe from the 1970s. The model was officially shown to the public at the 1970 Geneva Motor Show, three years after a first prototype was presented at the 1967 World's Fair in Montreal, Canada. Although Alfa Romeo never delivered the model across the ocean, the model was called Montreal, a subtle reference to the first introduction and the city in which it took place.
The Montreal was factory equipped with a V8 engine with 2593 cc which was derived from the competition engine of the Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale. The engine was equipped with two overhead camshafts per cylinder row and a so-called 'Spica' injection system. Drive is by a ZF 5-speed manual transmission of the dogleg type. The car has a power of 230 hp.
The body was designed by the renowned designer Marcello Gandini, associated with the design house Bertone. Behind the doors are air inlets, which, incidentally, have no function whatsoever due to the front engine, and the two doors, which are shaped like bull horns, bear a strong resemblance to those of Gandini's masterpiece, the Lamborghini Miura from 1966. Another stylistic feature is the single naca. duct in the hood, which provides extra air supply to the engine. Gandini often sprinkled with so-called naca ducts in his designs, with the Renault 5 Turbo (rear wing), the Lamborghini Jarama (bonnet), the Lamborghini Espada (bonnet) and the Lamborghini Countach (in the door and rear wing for the benefit of air supply to the rear engine).
The Montreal was in production until 1977. In total, 3,925 copies of the Montreal were produced during the production time, so that in addition to a beautiful timeless design, it also remains an exclusive object.
This very original Alfa Romeo Montreal is from June 30, 1972 and executed in the color Rosso with a fabric interior. The interior consisting of gray carpet, black seats and a black set of mats is original and is in a very good and neat condition. The car was initially orange in color and, as a result of a personal choice of a later owner, was provided with the current red paint. The Spica injection system was overhauled in 2014 in the United States by Ingram Enterprises Inc., based in Burlington, and reassembled and adjusted under the direction of the Dutch specialist PD Birnie. The car comes with a printout from the company Speedcentre in Geldermalsen, which states the engine power and torque.
The car has been in the Netherlands since October 2001 and with the current owner since November 2018. Since the car is now 50 years old, it no longer needs an MOT in the Netherlands. Finally, the car comes with a set of invoices for the maintenance performed on the car in recent years.
