EXTERIOR
Penned by the legendary Giorgetto Giugiaro for Bertone, the Alfa Romeo 2000 GTV is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful cars ever designed, with its gentle curves, defined lines and cleverly formed windows creating a vehicle of perfect proportions. Finished in its factory designated colour of Grigio Chairo Metallic the owner decided to add some modern twist to the cars wonderfully 70’s style, substituting the vinyl roof section for a painted gloss Nero finish that perfectly captures the GTV’s sweeping roofline. Adoring the front wings the legendary Quadrifoglio decals give a nod to the brands incredible racing history and the dominance of the GTAm in period.

Fully stripped by a marque specialists in 2010 this example still presents in superb condition, covering just over 1k careful miles with the same owner in this time. Invoices document the extensive metalwork work undertaken before the car was resprayed in its two tone finish and Waxoiled to preserve the beautiful bodywork. Having been carefully stored and used sparingly, condition of the exterior is superb; showing with consistent panel gaps, a beautiful shine and no rust in the tell-tale spots (scuttle, sills, arches), this GTV is a testament to its 35 year longterm owner.

INTERIOR
Continuing the fantastic condition of the car the interior presents very well, with the black leather upholstery showing minimal wear it still retains a supple texture across the sculpted sports seats and door cards. The black leather was chosen carefully to mimic the original vinyl upholstery fitted to all cars, adding a more luxurious feel to the space. Up front the dashboard really details the incredible condition of the car, showing free from the major cracks that plague almost every 105 series Alfa Romeo.

Designed to be used the interior of this example has been selectively upgraded with some creature comforts in the form of electric front windows and a FM/AM Radio with cassette player, although the original unit is available should the new owner wish to revert the car back to its original specification. Another nice feature is the factory fitted sunroof, which is believed to be an extremely rare factory fitted electric roof from new.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Free revving and full of character Alfa’s Twin Cam engine is synonymous with this era of motoring, storming to victory on the racetrack with the GTAm and GTA Junior, whilst gaining traction in their road cars with its fantastic noise and performance. Fitted with the largest 2000cc engine this GTV was the quickest of the range, with this example dyno tested at an impressive 138bhp thanks to uprated camshafts, twin Webber DCEO 45s with ram pipes and a GTA exhaust manifold which were all fitted during the engine rebuild with specialists Gran Turismo Engineering.

Working perfectly with the high revving engine a lightweight flywheel has been fitted and the gearbox has been overhauled with the synchros working perfectly to provide a smooth and precise change. Also uprated the limited slip differential perfectly handles the GTV’s increased performance, creating an incredibly fun and focused driving experience.

Servicing has been carried out regularly throughout the cars life, with tens of thousands of pounds worth of invoices dating back to the 1980s which outline stringent maintenance and help to verify the 89k miles currently shown on the odometer.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Accentuating the 2000 GTV’s sports car looks a premium set of 14” GTA style magnesium alloys have been fitted in favour of the standard hubcap wheels, creating a cleaner aesthetic whilst saving weight over the original examples. Matching Yokohama tyres adorn each corner and show with plenty of tread remaining.

Improving the GTV’s already impressive handling the owner opted to fit a Harvey Bailey handling kit, consisting of stiffer Bilstein shocks, uprated anti-roll bar, but using a new set of OEM springs which keep the same ride height and level of comfort with better body control. All round disc brakes stop the lightweight Alfa with ease, with the system recently overhauled.

HISTORY FILE
First registered on 12/09/1972 this stunning Alfa Romeo 2000 GTV is one of just a handful of RHD cars supplied to the UK market, which were produced in Milan rather than the South African cars which were sent in parts and assembled on arrival.

Remaining in the UK from new the car has had just 5 owners in total, purchased by the current owner in 1982, sold to a friend in 1984 and then purchased back in 1988, which outlines an almost 35 year single ownership. Invoices present with the car date back to 1989 and outline £35k+ spent by the current owner, including a full body restoration, engine rebuild, re-trim and respray with various Alfa Romeo specialists. A hand written log of mileage and annual distance driven runs along side a plethora of MOTs and supporting invoices helping to track the cars mileage, covering just over 5k miles with the current owner since 1989 and kept in de humidified storage to ensure the car remained free from any corrosion.

More recent work includes an oil and filter service upon arrival here after being kept in storage over the lockdown period.

Present with the car is a comprehensive log of invoices + MOTs, a selection of spare/original parts, V5 and 2 sets of keys.
