EXTERIOR
Penned by the legendary Giorgetto Giugiaro for Bertone, the Alfa Romeo 2000 GTV is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful cars ever designed, with its gentle curves, defined lines and cleverly formed windows creating a vehicle of perfect proportions. Finished in a classic shade of Rosso Alfa this UK RHD example looks utterly superb, with the rich red finish perfectly enveloping the Alfa’s elegant silhouette.

Fully refurbished by marque specialists VeloceSport this example presents free from the usual corrosion that plagues cars of this generation, with a series of photos documenting the full respray and rust repair, including the all important scuttle panel, before the car was Waxoiled and undersealed to prevent any future corrosion. In addition to the full respray all exterior trim and fitting were refurbished, or replaced where necessary, to ensure the car presents in incredible condition.

INTERIOR
Mirroring the condition of the bodywork the interior shows in fantastic condition, with the black leather upholstery showing just some light creasing it still retains a supple texture across the sculpted sports seats and door cards. The black leather was chosen carefully to mimic the original vinyl upholstery fitted to all cars, adding a more luxurious feel to the space.

Perfectly placed in front of the driver the thin rimmed Alfa Hellebore steering wheel is a joy to hold, providing superb feedback from the front wheels whilst nestled just beyond, the Jaeger Italia dials add a distinctively sporty feel.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Free revving and full of character Alfa’s Twin Cam engine is synonymous with this era of motoring, storming to victory on the racetrack with the GTAm and GTA Junior, whilst gaining traction in their road cars with its fantastic noise and performance. Fitted with the largest 2000cc engine this GTV was the quickest of the range, producing 130bhp it manages the 60mph sprint in just 8.2 seconds whilst top speed is a respectable 123mph.

During the cars restoration the engine was stripped and reassembled, with refurbished Webber carburettors and an overhauled gearbox to ensure the car performs as expected on the road. Additionally all ancillary components were restored to as close to factory specification as possible, with new hoses and clips, engine mounts, radiator fan, ignition leads, fuel pump, fuel line and a new fuel tank + sender. A new three-piece clutch kit was also installed, along with new hydraulics, a new clutch master + slave cylinders and a new sports exhaust system to complement the engines resonant song.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Accentuating the 2000 GTV’s sports car looks a set of 14” GTA style alloys have been fitted in favour of the standard hubcap wheels, creating a cleaner aesthetic whilst saving weight over the original examples. Matching Kuhmo tyres adorn each corner and show in almost new condition, with plenty of tread remaining.

All round disc brakes stop the lightweight Alfa with ease, with the system completely rebuilt during the cars restoration. Overhauled suspension completes with extensive restoration works, with new adjustable red Koni shock absorbers fitted front and rear.

HISTORY FILE
First registered on 01/06/1972 this stunning Alfa Romeo 2000 GTV is one of just a handful of RHD cars supplied to the UK market, which were produced in Milan rather than the South African cars which were sent in parts and assembled on arrival.

Remaining in the UK from new the car was the subject of a comprehensive overhaul by marque specialists VeloceSport, who carried out the year long restoration that was completed in 2018. Works were thorough and included some rust repair before a full respray, interior re-fit and gearbox/engine rebuild which ultimately brought the car back to a better than new standard of finish. A photographic file documents the intensive restoration, with images outlining the work undertaken at VeloceSport, as well as invoices which outline over £41k of costs.

Since its restoration the car has visited VeloceSport for routine maintenance, with the last service carried out in March 2020 consisting of a check-over and an engine oil + filter change.
