Description
AC Car Group Ltd’s modern take on the original Cobra
Just 1,619 miles and three owners from new
The only left-hand drive CRS produced
Fabulously unique and unmolested
One of 37 genuine Carbon Road Series by AC, the only left-hand-drive example.
Chassis CRS9500EX was built in 1999 as the prototype for the eventual production run of 37 Carbon Road Series cars by AC Car Group Ltd between 1999 and 2001. It served as the company’s prototype before being placed into storage until 2012, when it was registered for the first time and sold to its original owner, a well-known AC enthusiast, as an unpainted experimental car. This prototype is the only left-hand-drive example ever produced and can be imported and registered outside the UK, including in the USA.
The Carbon Road Series cars were fitted with a Ford 302 5-litre engine paired with a five-speed manual gearbox. The composite bodies were manufactured by Pro-Tech Motorsport Ltd, owned by F3000 racing team owner and former Radio One DJ David ‘Kid’ Jensen. The prototype features a number of unique differences, including a hand-laid carbon fibre tub rather than vacuum-formed, Brembo front brake calipers, power steering, single-skin glass-reinforced plastic bonnet and boot lids, GT40 P cylinder heads, Ford Motorsport stainless steel headers, Ford Motorsport 10mm high-performance plug leads, and a Tremec five-speed gearbox with a 3.7BTR limited-slip differential and heavy-duty half shafts. Optional extras included an aluminium radiator and a large fuel tank.
Acquired by its third and current owner, the following work was completed between 2012 and 2013: a black interior and carpet set were installed, the dashboard was replaced and new Smiths instruments fitted, a new odometer with a built-in GPS system was installed, 15” centre-lock wheels were fitted, and a full check-over of the electrics was carried out, including warning light wiring and a cut-off switch installed in the boot. The fuel tanks were removed, flushed, and cleaned. The original odometer, dashboard, and 16” wheels have been retained and are included in the sale, along with both tonneau covers, two keys, and the car’s history file.
