Snapshot, 1965: Boys will be boys at the Targa Florio

It’s May 1965, and the Autodelta-prepared Alfa Romeo GTA of Alessandro Frederico-Mario Cabral is in a makeshift paddock, struck with mechanical issues (surprise, surprise). But the Italian racing driver’s loss is the gain of both his mechanics and this fortunate young spectator…

The Sicilian sunshine is beating down, and the Autodelta mechanics cannot help but take a momentary break from working on Cabral’s stricken car, much to the delight of the young race-goer who’s been afforded the chance to ogle the Alfa virtually uninterrupted. All that’s missing is a makeshift lunch and several bottles of Chianti (for the crew’s consumption, of course), and this could be the quintessential Italian snapshot.
