‘Entry-level’ Ferrari GTC4 Lusso T with turbo V8 heads for Paris

At the Paris Motor Show, Ferrari will reveal an ‘entry-level’ variant of its four-seater super-tourer. The GTC4 Lusso T borrows the turbocharged V8 from the California T, and will reside below the naturally aspirated V12 variant of the shooting brake in the company’s ever-expanding line-up…

This is another one that’ll upset the Ferrari purists – but we doubt many of them are keen on the idea of an ‘estate’ Ferrari in the first place. Perhaps inspired by Bentley’s success in offering a smaller V8 alongside the behemoth W12 in its Continental line-up, Ferrari is offering the Lusso T not only for the obvious economic benefits for both its customers and the company as a whole, but also to help reach Marchionne’s annual volume target of 9,000 units by 2019. The 3.9-litre GTC4 Lusso T will make 602bhp to the 6.3-litre V12’s 680bhp, yet will produce a useful 47lb ft more torque than its bigger brother and, according to Ferrari, be better-equipped for ‘day-to-day driving in urban contexts’. It also ditches the complex (and heavy) four-wheel drive system for driven rear wheels, but retains the four-wheel-steering set-up. However, although it’ll cost a significant amount less than the V12 GTC4, is it worth the saving when you consider it’ll be the first Ferrari in history to be downsized cylindrically while being offered alongside a better-endowed variant of the same model? What works for Crewe might not meet the mark for Modena…
