The Mercedes-Benz 280 SE 3.5 convertible of the W111 series offered for sale here was delivered to its first owner in Ratzeburg (Germany) in June 1971 via the Hamburg branch. Later it was purchased by an American who took the vehicle back home. In 2014, the convertible was returned to its home country, where it was purchased by the current owner in 2018.

Between 2018 and 2019, it underwent a top-level restoration, during which the vehicle was completely overhauled. All parts were touched, so it’s no surprise that the car today convinces with every detail. The numbers of the vehicle match those of the data card ("matching numbers"), and it is still in the original color combination ("matching colors"). Detailed image documentation as well as the corresponding invoices ensure that the completed work is traceable down to the smallest detail. The detailed expert's report issued after that confirms the condition with a grade of 1 (perfect).

Ex-factory equipment included the middle armrest and headrests, electric windows, the ivory colored steering wheel and a radio with automatic antenna. For the next generation, a Mercedes-Benz child seat was also procured, which was equipped with the matching leather.

This vehicle is really perfect in detail and has only been moved about 4,000 km since the restoration. A feast for the eyes for the garage but also a pleasure for the road – for us the most beautiful four-seater convertible from Daimler-Benz.

The Mercedes 280 SE 3. 5 has always been referred to as the top model of the W111 series, which was produced between 1959 and 1971. Both the Cabriolet and the Coupé are top class vehicles with style and elegance.

It took ten years for a V8 engine to be installed in the W111 series. With its 3499 cm³ cylinder capacity, it brought an astonishing 200 hp on the road at that time. However, the car was not only technically but also visually optimized. The front of the car was fitted with a flatter bonnet and a lower radiator grille – which also gave rise to the designations “high- and flat-coolers".

The flat-coolers (and thus our W 111) are considered the most sought-after variant today. Of course, these vehicles are also particularly valuable because of their small number of units. Only 1,232 of the 280 SE 3. 5 Convertibles were produced and delivered between 1969 and 1971.

The vehicle is located in our showroom in Stuttgart-Plieningen, close to the airport/trade fair. A test drive and an inspection on the car lift are possible by arrangement.
