Beschreibung
• Delivered new in Italy on June 11, 1962
• Fully matching as reported in its Certificate of Origin
• One of 441 GTi produced
• Meticulously serviced and lovingly cared over the last decades
This Maserati 3500 GTi, as certified by the manufacturer, was completed on May 22, 1962 and delivered on June 11 of the same year, finished in Grigio Fumo Cascine (Max Meyer code 12.382) over Connolly leather (Connolly code PAC.1544). According to the Maserati archive, it was further specified with the distinctive chrome accelerator pedal with rubber sleeve.
The car spent most of its life in Germany before returning to its home country, Italy, where it presents today in excellent condition. It retains its factory colour scheme, along with its original carpets and interior, with the exception of the seat and door panel finishes. Mechanically, the car is in excellent order, having recently undergone an extensive service at a specialised workshop in Milan, including work on the radiator and water pump.
Originally equipped with fuel injection, the car was converted to carburettors in period for ease of use and maintenance, as was common practice at the time. It is accompanied by a reproduction toolkit and a Certificate of Origin issued by Maserati.
Introduced following Maserati’s withdrawal from factory racing in 1957, the 3500 GTi marked the brand’s transition towards refined road-going grand tourers. Built on a tubular chassis and featuring lightweight construction inspired by the Superleggera system, it was powered by a six-cylinder engine derived from the 350S racing car, delivering strong torque and flexibility.
From 1961, the adoption of Lucas fuel injection allowed the engine to produce 235 horsepower, while optional features such as front disc brakes and a ZF five-speed gearbox further enhanced drivability and performance.
The 3500 GTi holds a significant place in Maserati’s history, having been selected as the symbolic model for the marque’s centenary celebrations in 2014. It remains one of the most elegant and usable Italian grand tourers of its era.
More than just a refined coupé, this example combines desirable factory specification, documented history, and careful maintenance. It offers an excellent opportunity to acquire a highly collectible Maserati from the early 1960s.
