Identification No. 34300469A
The Land Rover can be considered the original sport utility vehicle, having more or less created the category of an incredibly durable all-terrain, four-wheel-drive car for civilian use. Its basic design was in production in three series from 1948 to 1985, and served durably with both military forces and the public all over the world, becoming a symbol of rugged, muscular endurance. Many are still alive and well and in service with their owners today, with Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II being among the satisfied long-time Land Rover customers.
Jim Taylor found this Land Rover II A on Cape Cod and has enjoyed it for over three decades, employing it as a workaday vehicle for family trips and vacations to local ski areas, long before he began avidly buying vintage cars. It has remained a workhorse but, in typical fashion, well-cared-for, having been fitted with a new Atlantic British galvanized chassis, exhaust, springs in 2007 by the Cityside Garage of Holliston, Massachusetts, as well as restored wheels with replacement bearings and new tires. The color is faded from use but is believed to still be in its original paint, and is quite solid, with a patina that is quite appropriate to a well-loved Land Rover. It retains the original, short-lived wired Pilkington glass windshield. The interior has the original grey heavy-grain vinyl seat upholstery and the original headliner, both remaining in very good condition, as well as original gauges and switchgear.
With a six-cylinder engine and four-wheel-drive, the Land Rover has traveled 79,214 miles at the time of cataloging but stands ready to cover many more, accommodating up to ten passengers or a Queen and her herd of corgis!
