Description
This tool room copy of a works Jaguar D-type is so exact that Jaguar Landrover Classic had the car as part of its internal classic collection. It was used to celebrate the history of Jaguar with a tour of China as well as being a demonstrator for journalists and VIP guests visiting Jaguar Landrover works.
It became the reference and mule for the development of the 25 Jaguar continuation D-types built by JLR Classic.
Research and built by both an ex-Lotus engineer and a historic competition motor car enthusiast who had himself owned XKD544, the intention was to build an exact recreation of the real thing.
Where possible, either original or correct period parts were used, such as the engine, gearbox, rear axle, wheels, and carburetors.
In the instance that period parts were not available, remanufactured D-type spares were sourced from historic racing specialists, items such as chassis frame, brakes, monocoque and body.
This was the 1st D-type recreation to gain its FIA (HTP) papers and conforms exactly to the period specification, no surprise that Jaguar Ltd deemed the car to be so accurate that it became part of its classic Jaguar collection.
The car is road registered and because of its exceptional specification and provenance would be eligible for Goodwood Revival, Silverstone Classics, and prestigious FIA international race events.
