1966 Ferrari 275 GTB/6C Alloy - torque tube.

1966 UK delivery RHD Ferrari 275 GTB/6C Berlinetta by Scaglietti Chassis # 08181. One of just 4 RHD alloy, 6-carburetor, torque tube 275 GTB’s built.

Recently completely restored and certified as all matching numbers by Ferrari Classiche, Maranello, Italy In the original colour combination of Verde Scuro Speciale / Nero leather seats.

Post restoration was driven by Charles Leclerc at Fiorano who exclaimed:
‘What an incredible car to drive’ ‘It’s pure joy – the sound is incredible, the feeling is amazing, and you can sense the story behind it.

As the latest evolution of Ferrari’s 250-series, the 275 GTB was a direct replacement for the 250 GT/L Berlinetta Lusso, and while not all ranked the Scaglietti-built newcomer the aesthetic equal of its predecessor, the new gran turismo was undeniably superior in almost every other regard.

An enlarged more powerful 3.3-litre engine, a rear-mounted five-speed transaxle contributed to near-perfect weight distribution, ensured the 275 was one of the best-handling roadgoing Ferraris to ever leave Maranello. It was also one of the quickest, with an eye-opening 0-60 Mph time of six seconds and a top speed in excess of 170 Mph.

As time went on the 275 was further tweaked in mid-1965 with “long-nose” bodywork, while in early 1966 a torque tube was added to enhance the driving experience. Those seeking even greater performance could, as was done with 08181 specify six Weber carburettors in place of the standard triple Weber arrangement, and opt for competition-derived aluminium coachwork in place of standard steel.

08181 has a fully documented ownership history and as part of the restoration carried out by Ferrari Classiche in Maranello, there is unparalleled historical documentation which carries information down to the tiniest detail, such as the build sheets outlining the original specifications, along with the designs of each component, and supporting items such as the bill of materials and the sales papers, proving the car is now exactly as it was when delivered new in 1966 by Maranello Sales in the UK the Ferrari importer at the time.
