The Chevrolet Corvette is a sports car manufactured by the American brand Chevrolet since 1953. It is manufactured in Bowling Green, Kentucky, where the National Corvette Museum is also located. It was previously manufactured in Flint, Michigan and St. Louis, Missouri. It was the first sports car built by Chevrolet. While it is sold under the Chevrolet brand in the United States and elsewhere in the world, it is also sold under its own Corvette brand in Europe and Japan, where this model is quite rare. The car is built in coupe and convertible versions; the possibility of a sedan version has also been considered by GM executives. Manufacturing of the first generation began in 1953 and ended in 1962. The Corvette C1 is commonly known as the 'stiff axle', due to the fact that the independent rear suspension was not available until the appearance of the Corvette "Sting Ray" (Corvette C2 ) in 1963. Engines aside, the 1955 model can be differentiated by its logo, the "V" on the Corvette is enlarged and gold in color, signifying the V8 engine under the hood.
