Beschreibung
1935 ‘Derby’ Bentley 3.5 Sports Saloon.
Chassis B-201-EJ - One of just 161 Thrupp and Maberly Sports Saloons produced.
Delivered new in December 1935 to its first owner George Baines, the founder of Aston & Handsworth Model Bakery in Lozells Birmingham, who were a high profile retailer of bakery & confectionery goods from their own high street stores over a large area of the Midlands until the late 60’s. The registration number ‘BOK 446’ was issued in Birmingham so is most likely the original registration for the car.
From factory records contained within the documentation included with the car indicate Mr. Baines kept BOK 446 until 1949 when the car passed through various UK based owners, eventually ending up in the collection of one of the last true Bon Viveurs, the late Michael Blyth-Whitelock who was known to have a passion for fine French wines and took much pleasure in touring the French wine growing regions in his Bentley.
Since acquiring BOK 446 from Mr. Blyth-Whitelock’s estate we have sympathetically recommissioned the car, including a major service of the mechanical items and running gear all of which remain as originally delivered in 1935. We also carefully retained all of the original interior save for the carpets and headliner which quite reasonably showed some age-related degradation.
BOK 446 is a superb driving, well documented with factory records and service history by Rolls Royce & Bentley specialists matching number largely original example which meets perfectly Bentley’s original design brief “The car should answer the mood of the driver” and will serve the next owner of this handsome sports saloon for many more years to come as it has its previous owners.
