Beschreibung
This 1960 Aston Martin DB4 Series II represents one of the most important chapters in the history of the marque. Introduced in 1958, the DB4 marked a complete departure from previous Aston Martin models and laid the foundations for all subsequent icons of the 1960s, including the DB5. Designed under the leadership of David Brown, it combined British engineering with Italian design flair, featuring a lightweight Superleggera aluminium body by Carrozzeria Touring and Tadek Marek’s advanced 3.7-litre twin-cam straight-six engine.
The example offered here belongs to the highly regarded Series II, produced between January 1960 and April 1961. This series introduced a number of subtle yet meaningful refinements, including opening rear quarter windows, improved cooling, revised brakes and a front-hinged bonnet. As a result, the Series II is widely considered the most balanced iteration of the DB4, retaining the purity and lightness of the early cars while offering improved usability.
Chassis DB4/427/L was completed on 19 August 1960 and dispatched later that year. Originally built in left-hand-drive configuration for the North American market, it was delivered under Aston Martin’s desirable Home Delivery Scheme. Its first owner collected the car directly from Newport Pagnell, toured Europe and only later shipped it to the United States. Remarkably, its first documented service took place in Paris with just 572 miles recorded, a rare and highly attractive early history that speaks to careful ownership from new.
The car retains its original matching-numbers engine, gearbox and rear axle, as well as numerous correct factory details, including the miles-per-hour speedometer, SU HD8 carburettors, Motorola radio, Marchal headlamps, Power-Lok limited-slip differential. A discreet period oil cooler, fitted beneath the front bumper, adds both visual character and functional appeal.
Restored in the Netherlands by renowned specialist H.A. Oosterbroek Automobielrestauratie, the DB4 was returned to its original specification with great attention to authenticity. Finished in an elegant metallic Racing Green and protected with high-quality Glasurit lacquer, it presents beautifully while remaining entirely usable. The car is accompanied by outstanding documentation, including its Aston Martin Certificate of Origin, BMIHT Heritage Certificate, FIA Historic Technical Passport (GT7, valid until 2027) and FIVA Identity Card.
Eligible for premier historic events such as Le Mans Classic, Goodwood Revival, Tour Auto and the Mille Miglia, this DB4 Series II offers a rare opportunity to acquire a beautifully documented, matching-numbers Aston Martin from the model that defined the brand’s golden era.
