Description

Model History

Before dealing with further Flavia developments, another model had to be introduced. It became the most successful Lancia of the pre-Fiat era and was called the Fulvia. Lancia decided to make the Fulvia a scaled-down version of the Flavia, using many as common mechanical parts as possible for commercial reasons. Except for the engine, the Lancia V4 closely followed Appia architecture with its separate crankcase and cylinder block.

The first Fulvia was introduced at the Geneva Motor Show in 1963. She looked very attractive in its day and had a very individual character. Considerd to be Pietro Castagnero’s best design ever, as wel as Lancia’s most popular model of the sixties and early seventies, was the Fulvia Coupe. Under its delicate exterior Lancia developed a whole range of technical variants. The works team secured a handful of wins at World Championship level before the arrival of the 1.6 HF. Combining a light weight with front-wheel drive, the Fulvia utilized a narrow V-configuration 4-cylinder engine mounted in front of the front axle.

The ultimate Fulvia came with extended wheel arches, wide light-alloy wheels with negative camber front suspension geometry and a bumperless front with large headlamps: the Fulvia Rallye 1.6 HF, usually called Fanalone because of its aggressive headlamps. It was an updated version of the Rallye 1.3 fitted with the all-new 818.540 1584cc engine producing 114 hp at 6000 rpm and was only built from 1969 until 1970. Other modifications included a close ratio 5 speed gearbox. The Fulvia’s success was continued by the Stratos, Rally 037 and the Delta S4, culminating in the Delta’s Group A’s record-breaking run of titles.

This example

This is a rare Fulvia as its one of only 1258 Rallye 1.6 HF ‘Fanalone’s’ built (plus another 20 for the Squadra Corse team). She has spent most of her life in Italy. In 2011 the car was exported to the Netherlands for its current Dutch owner. The car was then carefully restored and the engine was rebuilt. With the car comes a nice documentation file with several invoices as well as a nice photo book showing the high quality of the restoration. The car shows no signs of crashes and is very solid with very good panel fit. The car features special Campagnolo alloy wheels, leather sport seats, a Halda trip master and probably due to competition in its early life the wheel arches are widened a little more.

The car is a joy to drive. She runs and drives very well with excellent gear change, great road holding and handling and is quite fast! Cars like these are highly suitable for great rallies such as Tour Auto and the famous Dutch Tulpenrallye. Fulvia’s are notable for their role in motorsport history, including winning the International Rally Championship in ’72. Driving a Fulvia always turns out to be an exciting experience in this piece of Italian refinement.

The car is Dutch (EEC) registered. We are currently searching for early history and waiting for the FCA Heritage certificate.

Price is euro 94.500,-. Please ask for our video or more pictures as required.
