Unveiled at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show, Ferrari’s track-only variant of the 599 GTB—dubbed the 599XX—featured increased performance, improved handling, and a remarkable reduction in weight over the standard model. Though only 44 examples were built, it was enough for Maranello to gauge the appetite for a street-legal version of the hardcore racer, which was duly announced on 8 April 2010. The 599 GTO—standing for Grand Turismo Omologato—was essentially a roadgoing version of the 599XX, and at launch was claimed to be the fastest production Ferrari ever built.
Powered by a 5,999 cc V-12 engine, the GTO produced 661 horsepower and could accelerate to 100 km/h in under 3.3 seconds. With an eye-watering top speed of 335 km/h, the GTO provided a thrilling driving experience for those lucky enough to sit behind the wheel. In addition to offering comparable performance to the track-focussed 599XX, the GTO inherited weight saving measures that shaved 100 kilograms from the kerb weight of its older sibling—the 599 GTB. Befitting such a special offering, Ferrari limited production to just 599 units worldwide.
This example was manufactured in September 2010 and supplied new to the first owner via the Swiss dealer Automobile Nemeth AG. The bodywork was finished in the desirable colour combination of Rosso Corsa with a contrasting Grigio Silverstone roof. The cabin was trimmed in Nero Tessuto fabric, with red stitching on the dashboard and carbon fibre sports seats, while Alcantara was used for the door cards, headlining, and luggage space. A plaque mounted on the left of the dashboard reads ‘Ferrari, 31 Formula 1 World Titles’, a nod to the Scuderia’s competition heritage. This car’s engine cover is autographed by the technical team that built it, only adding to its exclusivity.
A diligent collector of Prancing Horse sports cars, the first owner decided to have Ferrari Classiche certify this example. The “Red Book” was issued in September 2011, which stated the colour scheme was factory-correct and that the engine and gearbox were matching numbers. Following seven years of ownership, the car was placed into an auction with 2,966 km then showing on the odometer and sold in 2017 to the second and current owner. Evidently used sparingly by the consignor, the odometer reads only 3,659 km at the time of cataloguing. Accompanying the car is the Ferrari Classiche Red Book, and an indoor car cover.
With its striking colour scheme, low mileage, only two owners, and Ferrari Classiche certification, this 599 GTO presents an exciting opportunity to acquire a cossetted example of Ferrari’s landmark grand tourer.
