Description
The Lotus Elan was introduced in 1962 and would go on to become one of the most successful sports cars of all time. It was the first Lotus road car to use the steel backbone chassis with fibreglass bodywork embodying Colin Chapman’s minimum weight design philosophy, weighing in at just 1,600 Ib. Powered by a 1558cc, twin-cam-four-cylinder engine capable of propelling the car form 0-60mph in just under 8 seconds and onto a top speed of 120mph. The Elan, adopted several other firsts for a Lotus road car including four-wheel disc braking, rack and pinion steering and four-wheel independent suspension.

Having been supplied new to Mr R Bowes on 1st August 1970 this stunning example has covered an indicated 74,470 miles (just over 4000 miles since its restoration. Purchased in 2016 by a Lotus enthusiast the car underwent a complete restoration including various upgrades to enhance its touring capabilities. Works included: Full engine rebuild including forged pistons, high lift cams, bigger vales, balanced crank, gas flowed, Stromberg carburettors, big bore stainless exhaust system. Adjustable front and rear dampers, TTR driveshafts, Upgraded braking system including grooved brake discs, callipers and master cylinder with steel braided hoses, 5 speed gearbox, uprated coolex radiator, rad ducting, electric fan, electrical re-wire with 16 fuses, high torque starter motor, lightweight alternator, Dynomat sound insulation throughout. Other notable works included full bodywork restoration and interior re-trim.
