The Ford Escort gained worldwide fame after winning the 1970 London to Mexico rally in the hands of Hannu Mikkola and Gunnar Palm. 
Ford quickly recognized the market potential for affordable rally cars and initiated a special division named “Advanced Vehicle Operations” that converted standard road cars for competition use. The RS2000 is arguably the most drivable of all Escorts produced and even today a genuine AVO (ADVANCED VEHICLE OPERATIONS) car is highly desirable due to its build quality, strength and potential for further tuning.  

The Escort RS2000 was the last car to be introduced to the AVO production range, introduced in the June of 1973. The car fitted nicely into the AVO range with its performance almost comparable to the complex RS1600, but with the reliability and ease of maintenance as the Mexico.

The original name for the car was to be the "Puma", but it was decided to keep with the RS tradition and so it was re-named the RS2000.

ABOUT THIS SPECIFIC EXAMPLE
This genuine factory built AVO Ford Escort RS 2000 was newly delivered in Sweden in 1975.
As many times happens, old dreams come back and the current owner of this Ford Escort is a well known rally organizer who raced this type of car in his younger years with great succes and pleasure.
Due to the fact that these cars have been extensively raced and rallied it is hard to find and obtain original examples. Certainly an original AVO version is very difficult to find but after a long search an example was found which was in need of restoration.

Multiple rally champion and rally hero Erwin Doctor is also named Mr. Ford. Mr. Doctor has specialized with his company Historic Motorsport in the restoration of the classic rally Ford’s.
Mr. Ford can restore all type of classic Ford Escort’s. Standard cars which are upgraded but it is off-course also possible to restore the real deal like this original RS 2000.

Mr. Doctor is well known in the rally and restoration world as being a person who is keen on originality resulting in restorations whereby original specifications are kept and original parts are used.

EXTERIOR CONDITION
This Ford Escort RS 2000 is a very seriously restored example by above mentioned Ford guru.
An impressive restoration book show the details of the restoration and the quality.
Starting with the exterior. The body of the Ford has been completely restored and went back to bare metal. The paint is very nice with a beautiful glossy finish.
The panel gaps are perfect and the doors are closing easily which confirms how straight this example is.
When this car started life as 1 of the 400 examples built at the AVO factory, the pre-delivery inspection of the body had a very high level. Much higher then the standard Escort inspection.
The same quality or even a higher quality is achieved with the restoration of the exterior of this Ford.

The chrome, rubbers, windows and even the original Cibie lamps are in an outstanding condition.

The wheels are also in as new condition and the car is off-course fitted with 4 new tires.

INTERIOR CONDITION

Interior wise, the Ford shows the same quality as the exterior. Every single part has been extensively restored resulting in an as-new condition.

The car is fitted with a Brantz and Monit rally meter and on the passenger side the same dashboard is installed as for the driver. This part is not original but can easily be changed to original specification.

ENGINE BAY / BOOT

Due to modern restrictions a non period correct petrol tank is installed in the boot. The quality of installation is as expected from this car outstanding and if this beautiful example shouldn’t be professionally raced/rallied it is easily possible to bring back the original specification.

The engine bay is wonderfully clean and at show level. The complete engine bay is period correct restored and the name plate of rally hero and Mr. Ford can be found in the engine bay showing that this very rare car is restored by his company.

The Ford Escort RS 2000 has an amazing race and rally trackrecord so it doesn’t need any explanation how this car drives.
