EXTERIOR
Taking inspiration from the iconic 1974 Porsche 3.0 RS the climactic curves and vast rear wing of this incredible 9m11 Restomod create an elegant yet purposeful period guise for the altogether more contemporary set up beneath. Starting life as a 1987 3.2 Carrera this stunning project began its journey with marque specialists Norfolk Premier Coachworks, who set about the arduous task of completely stripping the car before converting it to an RS style wide-body using only genuine Porsche panels throughout.
Once fabrication work on the body was completed the entire shell was re-finished in the cars factory colour of Guards Red, retaining a link to the original donor car whilst now presenting as something all together more impressive. Bridging the gap between road and race car the builders have left no stone unturned in the quest for perfection, including bespoke details such as the custom front bumper which features air intakes in place of the lower driving lights and a hand made steel rear valance, which replaces the chunky original impact bumpers and perfectly houses the substantial centre mounted exhaust tips.
Invoices show paint, prep and fabrication work totalled over £31k, with an extensive list of part and labour costs detailing every aspect of this incredible build. Having covered just 11 miles since being completed in September 2021 condition of the car is flawless; free from any blemishes the vibrant finish and contrasting gold wheels create a perfect pairing for the fierce form of this 911.
INTERIOR
Opening the door to the cabin reveals a meticulously curated space which blends the traditional 911 fixtures with some modern touches to create a comfortable and cohesive space. Bespoke Recaro Clubsport seats provide a superb level of support and comfort whilst tri-colour Martini stripe inserts are a nod to the brands iconic collaboration with Porsche and their racing success throughout the 70s with the 917 and RSR. Beyond the driver sits an Porsche RS Momo steering wheel, upholstered in alcantara to match the door cards and add a further racing edge to the space.
Offsetting the modern seating sits the traditional 5 dial cluster which has been preserved from the original car, as have the original black carpets and even the original AFN Porsche Guildford rear window sticker, which shows some very light signs of patina giving the space a real sense of warmth and character.
Refitted to modern standards the interior now posses a much higher quality of fit and finish throughout, with new seals and rubbers creating a much quieter space on the move, and the added benefit of a Blaupunkt Classic style head-unit which features DAB, Bluetooth and USB inputs to make the car as user friendly as possible.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Lurking beneath the 70s style wide body of this 911 is a truly extraordinary piece of engineering courtesy of the incredible Ninemeister team. Replacing the standard 3.2 engine is a bespoke 993 derived unit which has been fully rebuilt to 3.8L RS specification with a host of custom and racing parts including Mahle Pistons, 9M Sports Cams, Mechanical Rockers, Motec Software and much more. During the cars running in the engine was dynoed with an output of 329bhp and 313 lb ft of torque, which is more than enough to make the lightweight 911 a properly quick car on the road, however it has been said that the true potential of the car is still to be unleashed.
Further refinements have been made in the form of a Quaife limited slip differential and a lightweight flywheel + clutch setup to make the car as tractable as possible. Paired to a fully rebuilt G50 5-speed manual gearbox the increased performance of the RS spec engine creates a wholly engaging driving experience that allows the driver to fully utilise the incredibly responsive, free revving flat-6, whilst a custom exhaust system produces a purposeful rasp that fills the cabin as the car pulls through the gears.
Dyno testing, oil change and a final shake down of the car was carried out in September 2021 meaning the mechanical condition of the car is faultless throughout.
WHEELS, TYRES; BRAKES
Continuing the classic motorsport styling of this 911 the owner opted to fit a set of 15” Group 4 Campagnolo 40802 style wheels, finished in gold to perfectly offset the vibrant guards red paintwork. Matching Pirelli P-Zero Rosso tyres adorn each corner and show in almost new condition, having covered just tens of miles on the road to date.
Underpinning the car is a totally reworked suspension set up which includes a KW Clubsport 2-way coilover kit, uprated strut braces and an uprated 930 Turbo braking system, all fitted and dialled in by the air-cooled masters at Ninemeister.
HISTORY FILE
Supplied new on 03/12/1987 by AFN Porsche Guildford this incredible project started life as a 3.2 Carrera, before being purchased by the current owner in 2017. Presenting as a solid, 3 owner example the car was selected as the base on which the owner would build his dream 911, enlisting the services of renowned specialists Norfolk Premier Coachworks and Ninemeister to help bring his vision to life. Works took over 4 years and totalled in excess of 1000 hours, including a full strip before converting the car to a widebody, crafted as a homage to the legendary 1974 3.0L RS.
A meticulous log of parts, labour and costs was created by the owner to document the full extent of the build to trace the vast list of upgrades and help keep track of the mounting cost of the project. Invoices total in excess of £115k since 2017, excluding the donor car and the 14 stamps in the original service book previous to the conversion taking place.
Present with the car is the stamped original service book and supporting invoices, complete file of the build and V5.
