Description

Rare Barn-Find 1959 BMW 503 Coupe 1 of 273 Produced

This 1957 BMW 503 Coupe is an exceptionally rare car as one of just 273 produced between 1956 and 1959. Silver with tan interior. An extremely original unrestored example that retains its matching numbers engine. It was brought over to the US in the early 1970's and has been in storage for the last 35 years. Not currently running. A special car that's been patiently awaiting a much deserved restoration. It comes complete and intact. A project well-worth the effort. Once restored, it would undoubtedly be a welcome entrant for driving events.

Introduced in 1956, the BMW 503 was a 2+2 grand tourer. Influenced by the success of the early Mercedes SL, BMW decided to pursue the sports car market. The 503 was positioned as an opulent grand tourer and was built alongside the luxuriously appointed 507 Roadster. The 503 was available as a coupe or cabriolet, and was fitted with BMW's 3.2L OHV V8 engine. With its welded tubular frame construction, aluminium panels, and alloy V-8 engine, the 503 quickly proved very expensive to build. Despite attempts to appeal to the US market with the fitment of a 3.2-litre V-8 engine, both the 503 and 507 struggled to bring in the sales expected by BMW, in large part due to a higher-than-expected list price, inflated due to spiralling build costs. Today, the low production numbers of the 503 Coupe result in the model being highly coveted among collectors. An attractive classic powered by one of the most characterful engines BMW had produced. The long bonnet, 2+2 seating configuration, and ample boot space affirm the 503 Coup's status as an elegant and capable grand tourer.

One of Just 273 BMW 503 Coupes Produced

Matching-Numbers Example

Barn-Find Out of 35 Year Storage

Price: $117,500
