Description

The first Yamaha ‘Ténéré’ came in 1984, the single-cylinder off-road XTZ600 – which was based on the works bikes campaigned in long-distance endurance events like the Paris-Dakar Rally. Further developments came but it was the punchy water cooled parallel twin 750cc ‘Super’ Ténéré in 1989 that featured double overhead camshafts and five valves per-cylinder that made the biggest impact with the race 750 and 850 versions winning the Dakar rally a total of six times. This example was partially restored in 2022 to resemble the race wining bikes. The frame was striped and powder coated and re assembled with new fixings. Bodywork re painted. The engine had a top end refresh with new rings, exhaust valves and guides, and a new clutch. The front and rear suspension was overhauled and the wheels rebuild with new Takahashi rims. The bike also has an alloy ‘devil’ exhaust. Showing 34,000 miles it remains in excellent condition with an MoT until March 2026. In addition it has also just received a fresh service, overhaul of the clutch and a new starter relay. A perfect bike that is ready to be used in the many historic rally raids and tours that have become so popular with adventure riders.
