The Porsche Carrera GT

Is it any wonder why the Porsche Carrera GT is the collector car world’s flavour of the month right now? Porsche’s first limited-production supercar since the Group B-bred 959, the Carrera GT harnessed the most state-of-the-art technology of the time yet retained its focus on mechanical purity and driver involvement.

So while the beautiful open-top Porsche boasts a carbon-fibre monocoque and subframe and carbon-ceramic brakes just like its period competitor the Ferrari Enzo, it’s fitted with a six-speed manual gearbox and little in the way of electronic driving aids.

Throw the sonorous 610HP 5.7-litre V10 engine into the mix and the result is one of all-time great analogue driving experiences. And in a world of unrelenting technological evolution that is increasingly sanitising driver engagement in the performance car sector, analogue is in demand.

Just 1,270 individually numbered Carrera GTs left Porsche’s Stuttgart factory between 2003 and 2007. Today, they are unsurprisingly among the most sought-after limited-production modern supercars for the current crop of next-generation collectors.

The Carrera GT we have the pleasure of offering for sale is number 466. Delivered new in January of 2005 to Italy, where it’s remained ever since, the car is finished in GT Silver Metallic with an Ascot Brown interior. The latter is a beautiful and more understated shade than the more commonly seen Terracotta.

Boxes ticked by the original owner on the admittedly limited factory options list included air-conditioning, an uprated battery, the fantastic Becker Online Pro stereo, brake calipers painted in contrasting yellow and the laminated wooden gear knob – a stylish ode to Porsche’s legendary prototype racers of the 1960s and 1970s.

Retaining its factory toolkit and all its original books including the stamped service record, this Italian-registered Carrera GT has changed hands just once in its lifetime, in April of 2012, and shows just 19,100km on the odometer. Notable maintenance works include a major service at the official Porsche Centre Bergamo in 2008 which amounted to almost 15,000 euros and the clutch update installed after a model-specific factory recall in 2012. The car was most recently serviced in June of 2021.

Finding a low-mileage, highly-original and blemish-free Porsche Carrera GT is no mean feat. This beautifully specified example, which has remained in Italy its entire life in the custody of just two owners, fills those criteria.
