The 405 that we present to you has a singular and exciting history. It is above all a meeting between two men, Sylvain Blum and Daniel Dereims. They took part in the Paris Dakar in 1988 at the wheel of a Toyota Land Cruiser and finished 5th in the diesel marathon overall. During this Rally they meet the Peugeot Talbot Sport team and discuss together their participation in other events, such as the Australian Safari. Peugeot has never taken part in this raid and the idea is launched. They had to find the ideal car. In 1991 Mr Blum bought a 405 MI 16 4X4 and the project was born: this car was entrusted to Daniel Dereims who was in charge of the preparation and it was to be at the start of the Australian Safari in 1993. In contact with PTS engineers, he builds a real monster. The bodywork is modified to fit the huge wheels, the doors are made of fiber, the roll bar is custom-made by Matter, the rear suspension is a prototype with a Citroën system, the 300-litre tank is fixed at the rear for a good balance of masses. The engine - gearbox part will be a masterpiece. The preparation will be entrusted to Jean Gélon in Belgium. A well-known name in compressor engine preparations. The engine will be redesigned starting from forged pistons, a Sybele injection system and of course a Sprintex compressor. All this will be coupled to a gearbox developed by Sman and fitted with Torsen differential. After a moment of tuning, the car obtains its FFSA passport in March 1993. unfortunately, various events will compromise the departure of the 405 for the rally-raid. After having been the masterpiece of these two creators, the car will take part in some demonstrations and shows and will be kept by its driver Mr Blum. Regularly driven and maintained, it is today in a nice original state and in good mechanical condition. This prototype is aimed here at the collector eager for originality in search of thrills, for a fraction of the price of a group B with similar performances!
This car will be sold by auction by AGUTTES Auction House, in Sochaux, at the Aventure Peugeot Museum, France, on September the 20th, 2020.
