Description
A truly stunning example of a genuine Cooper tuned Mini
Benefitted from a well documented, phenomenal restoration
Finished in iconic British Racing Green over Red leather interior
A 75bhp pocket rocket
Alec Issigonis’ Mini has been an icon ever since its launch in 1959 for a plethora of reasons including its innovative styliny, celebrity owners and its excellent performance and capability. Legendary race engineer and co-founder of the Cooper Car Company was involved in the development of the original BMC Mini and the Cooper and Cooper S versions in particular became the stuff of legend, racking up victory after victory in the world of rallying and motorsport, even winning the vaunted Monte Carlo Rally an astonishing three times. Their icon would only grow with 1969’s comedy crime caper, The Italian Job which saw three Mini’s in red, white and blue perform a successful gold bullion heist.
The Mini we are delighted to offer today has benefitted from the magic touch of the John Cooper Garages who carried out an Si conversion, a desirable period modification which upped the horsepower of fuel-injected models to 75bhp, a considerable amount in such a small, lightweight car. Being a 1999 car, it comes right at the end of John Cooper’s life as he sadly passed away in 2000, making this one of the very last ‘real’ Coopers.
Finished in British Racing Green with beautiful Red leather interior, our car has been subjected to a thorough restoration, as can be seen in our file which shows hundreds of photos throughout the restoration from start to finish, showing careful attention paid to the quality of the coachwork, engine, brakes and other areas. The car features a Bentley-like turned aluminium dash, complemented by stylish cream guages. As with all fast Minis, it is excellent fun to drive and looks particularly purposeful with its bank of 4 foglights complete with tinted covers in front of the grille, combined with its low stance and the gold “Superlight” wheels it sits upon. This is an excellent opportunity to buy one of the last true Cooper Minis and is undoubtedly among the finest Cooper Si’s on the market, truly not to be missed by any fan of the legendary Mini Cooper.
