The Mercedes-Benz W121 BII series was produced from 1955 to 1963 and sold as the Mercedes-Benz 190 SL. A total of 25,881 units were made. The R121 was introduced in 1955 to provide an affordable version of the legendary 300SL (R198) and was succeeded by the Pagoda SL W113 in 1963.

In 1953, the first studies were conducted for an open version of the 180 Ponton sedan, with two or four seats. The Mercedes-Benz 190SL is therefore technically based on the W121 series sedan, the so-called "ponton model." To distinguish the 190SL from the 190 ponton model, the factory code W121 was supplemented with the suffix B2 (for series II), so that the correct internal designation is W121B2. Based on the later internal numbering of the SL models, with the abbreviation R, the 190SL is then referred to. The 190SL was available exclusively with a 1.9-liter inline four-cylinder gasoline engine, which, equipped with dual carburetors, produced approximately 77 kW (105 hp) from the factory.

The 190SL closely resembled its "big brother," the 300SL "Gullwing," but its engine performance, among other things, was considerably lower than that of the 300SL, which had a direct-injection 3-liter inline six-cylinder engine with 158 kW (215 hp). Therefore, Daimler-Benz described the 190SL in its brochures as a "touring car" and not a sports car.

This Mercedes presented here is an unrestored car, with its original paintwork and interior. The roof and tailgate still have the ski mounting points. We found this beautiful original car in Italy. This matching car still drives fine and still has the Solex carburetors and is a find for someone looking for a real convertible.
